Intern Spotlight – Micah Davie

By Steven Broyles

Summer 2025 – For Micah Davie, the journey into design and architecture has already taken a few exciting turns. After completing his first full year in the Interior Design program at Georgia Southern University, Micah is preparing for a new chapter. This fall, he will transfer to Kennesaw State University to pursue a Bachelor of Architecture degree. His current goal is to graduate in 2030, though he hopes to accelerate his path through Kennesaw’s intensive architecture program and finish by 2029.

Micah’s internship at Hill Foley Rossi gave him a firsthand look at how architectural practice differs from the classroom. “One of the most unexpected parts for me of working at HFR had to be the significant contrast I noticed between professional architectural practice done at the firm and my architectural experiences in school,” he explained. “One moment that stood out was when I was tasked with dimensioning a floor plan. Comparing my initial work to the more proficient dimensioning shown to me by my mentor revealed how differently a professional eye approaches even a simple task.”

That experience—and many others during his time with HFR—helped confirm that architecture is the right direction for him. “Working at HFR certainly helped me cement my decision in wanting to pursue a career in architecture,” Micah said. “It gave me better insight into what I would be doing post-graduation, touched on the things I already loved about the field, and gave me new reasons to continue in the direction I am headed.”

For students considering internships, Micah strongly encourages the opportunity. “I would strongly suggest that they do it—either here at HFR or with any other firm offering internships,” he advised. From his perspective, the value of interning lies not only in building technical expertise but also in personal and professional growth.

“For any other students wanting to work as an architectural intern, I would say that, from my experience, it is one of the best ways to further your career goals while also retaining the knowledge you’ve already learned at school and expanding upon it,” he said. “At HFR, the amount of learning and practice you’ll gain is the most important and helpful part of the experience. I also found that interning is helpful not only for technical skills, but also for social ones—learning to reach out to others when I needed help on a project or task, and practicing the professional skills I’ll need in the future.”

As Micah continues his academic journey at Kennesaw State, his time at HFR has given him both confidence and clarity. With a strong foundation of practical experience and a growing passion for architecture, he is already taking bold steps toward shaping his career in the field.
